Angina pectoris is a medical disease characterised by a chest pain with varying severity level. Generally the main cause for this ailment is a lack of proper oxygen supply to the heart muscles which in itself is caused because of presence of some kind of obstruction in the coronary arteries, that is, the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart. One of the main reasons for heart problem is atherosclerosis which is the hardening of the walls of the artery because of deposits on it. Angina is a Latin word meaning strangling and pectus too is Latin for chest, thus meaning a strangling sensation in the chest.
There are two broad categories of angina- stable and unstable. We deal with the stable form of angina. Stable angina is comparatively less severe form. It is basically slight pain in the chest which is generally observed when carrying out activities like running, jogging, walking. The pain generally recedes some time after stopping the activity; however, it may shoot again when the activity is resumed.
